Onward and Upward!
Gideon's Assignment
His assignment was from God. He was to tear down the alter to Baal that his father had been the keeper of. This was a big task. Not only was it a big alter but it was a huge part of Gideon's society. I wonder if at any point Gideon was overwhelmed at the thought of going against his father and his community?
There is the big question right there.
That goes right to the heart of why we are less enthusiastic about sharing Jesus with our family and friends. It is a huge task. We know that we will be ridiculed and maybe shunned. I also feel at times like my family and friends that know me the best will think I'm being pretentious or that I have turned into a bible beater. They know what skeletons are in my closet. The truth is that if I didn't have those skeletons in my closet then I would be a less effective Christian.
How do you have faith in a savior you do not need? If you have no skeletons then you have no reason for redemption and saving. Right? So for that reason, I thank God for my skeletons. Because of them I know how flawed I am and how much I need Him.
As the study moves along today Priscilla makes the point that we are to start our ministry right where we stand. Start at home. We can all do a little more spiritual leading in our homes. Once we have done that then we should move on to our friends and neighbors and so forth. It is a biblical concept first written about in Genesis 18:19 God told Abraham to begin his ministry with his own family and teach them to pass on the laws and lessons to their families. This would go on for generations.
I leave you with this. Begin and end every day with prayer. Pray all through out your day. Pray for guidance, acknowledge His presence, ask for courage and discipline. We live in strange times. I sometimes feel like what I know to be true is not what everyone else believes is true. A constant 'opposite day' if you will.
Read your Bible every single day. Seriously, do this. It really does keep you grounded in Him. It will keep your convictions straight and with knowledge on your side you cannot go wrong. Leave a legacy with your children that will make God proud.
I love you ladies! Have a beautiful weekend. See you Monday to start out week 3
