Day 8- Overlooking the Obvious

Hi ladies! Many times in a church service the preacher will say,"The Lord is with you." and the congregation replies in a very dull response, "and also with you."

What would that interaction sound like if we actually believed that?

The preacher might jump up and down and holler out " Hey friends! The Lord, our God is with YOU!! Seriously, He really is! Can you feel Him?"

And the congregations response might be something like this, "Oh, I know! He is with me. But, He is also with you preacher!"

The preacher and his congregation might end the whole interaction with high fives!

What would our daily lives look like if we really thought about the fact that God is with us? All of the time! When I am washing dishes...God is there. When I am by myself just thinking about things, God is there. When I am doing my best, and doing my worst, God is there. I know that if I really remembered this daily that I would put more effort into my life. I would not complain about laundry, dishes and other daily duties taking up all of my time. I need to be mindful where all of these blessings came from and that they are blessings. They may seem mundane but they are blessings anyway.

Lets take that a step further from our daily duties and apply it to the things that God tugs at you to do. God has tugged at me for a while about starting this blog. My reaction was that I was totally unqualified. We have talked about this. God kept on tugging. I thought, oh I am not going to be able to tell these ladies anything they do not already know. As I am working through this study I am starting to think that God wanted me to start this blog for the lessons that He needed me to learn. I intended to work through this book before we began the study so I would be prepared. But as life happened I was not able to do that. I had been really beating myself up about that. However, each day when I sit down to work on it just as you ladies are, God shows me exactly what He needs me to learn. My life circumstances right now being the way they are have made me so raw and in need of everything this study is teaching. God is huge! God is good and He is seriously with me! And also with you! High Five Ladies!!

Let's begin.

Overlooking the Obvious

Judges 6:12
The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior."

So many times we miss what God is telling us. He sees us for who He made us to be and desperately needs for us to see it too. Once we do we will be much more effective in our work for Him. I love that Priscilla tells it straight. We need to go to God in prayer about all things but we also need to consult the Bible on all things to see what God has already said about the matter. We all like to think of our circumstances as unique and complicated. The truth is that many times the Bible has an answer for it. The Bible is our owners manual! God owns our hearts! A very familiar phrase in my house is 'Google it'. Maybe I should go a step further sometimes and say 'Bible it'. I know it sounds corny but it is the best resource when life has unanswered questions. It is easy to feel very disconnected from the characters in the Bible. They have funny names and do funny things. The truth is however, that we are not all that different from them. If God had an answer for them then, it still applies today.

Here are a few verses to get you going

Matthew 22:37-38

New International Version (NIV)
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

Micah 6:8

New International Version (NIV)
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God.

1 Thessalonians 4:3

New International Version (NIV)
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;

1 Thessalonians 5:18

New International Version (NIV)
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 6:6

New International Version (NIV)
Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

I love you ladies and I will see you tomorrow!
